The Caring Institute and the National Association for Home Care & Hospice Celebrate Frederick Douglass's Birthday

WASHINGTON , D.C. (Feb. 10, 2012) – Fred Morsell, scholar and impersonator, keeps the spirit of Frederick Douglass alive through his educational performance of "Presenting Mr. Frederick Douglass." Morsell has brought this performance to over 500 schools and communities nationally since 1988, highlighting Douglass’ keys to success including, believing in yourself, taking advantage of every opportunity and using the power of the written and spoken language to effect positive change for yourself and society. Students from the Eliot-Hine Middle School participated in the festivity at the Frederick Douglass museum on Feb. 14 in celebration of Douglass’ 194th birthday.

Mission
The Caring Institute is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1985 to honor and promote the values of caring, integrity, and public service. Inspired by the example of Mother Teresa, we at the institute believe most problems can be solved if human beings truly care for one another. We celebrate those special individuals who transcend self and devote their lives to serving the disadvantaged, poor, disabled, and dying. Their enduring dedication to caring uplifts us all and ennobles the human race.

Goals
We’re committed to spreading the caring credo: you can do well by doing good. Success, as we constantly stress, is defined by having a passionate concern for the welfare of others. To reinforce this message, we continue to broadcast a new standard of social responsibility. Behind all our endeavors — past, present, and future — is the central concept that one person can make a difference.

We Remember Coach John Wooden
John Wooden, a 2008 Caring Award honoree, passed away at age 99 on Friday, June 4th, 2010. While he is known for his illustrious coaching career, which included leading the UCLA basketball team to an unprecedented 10 national titles, he is most remembered for his caring nature and commitment to serving others. He coached his players about more than just basketball. He coached them about life and how to succeed with integrity. He always expected the best of his players and of himself living by the belief that, “you can’t live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you”. We at the Caring Institute are honored to have known Coach Wooden and continue to be inspired by his lessons and example.
